Wallingford Ukulele Club
Steering Committee Minutes, Sept 10, 2025
Present: Dan, Jerry. Pam, Bruce, Beth, Mary-Alice, Brooke, Cliff, Paul W. Absent: Gina, Steven, Mary
Last minute details for Porchfest were discussed (folding chairs from Gina, sound equipment from Bruce, where to plug in extension cords)
It was felt that in future we should aim for fewer new songs for each monthly playlist, perhaps 6 or so. This gives more practice time for each individual song, and allows us to create more artistic arrangements or flourishes.
The music committee recognized that our repertoire is quite heavy with old-timey and 60’s folksongs. We need to make an effort to incorporate more pop and contemporary songs.
As far as concerts, we might include a few songs played by small (2-3 people) groups, apart from a few solos.
Mary-Alice suggested that in the announcement for the Beloff workshop, that the library could state that there will be a collection of winter hats and gloves or mittens.
Bruce has indicated that his business could print up the packets for the workshop, once we have a final tally of participants. Interested attendees are supposed to email Beth by Oct 16.
We need to print out a poster for the Wallingford Library and also send a poster pdf to the uke groups at Mystic and Simsbury.
Dan suggested that we include an occasional funny song in our repertoire; the Hanukkah song by Adam Sandler, and/or songs by Allan Sherman.
We will need to start choosing and reviewing songs for the December concert. Bruce suggested adding Shalom Alaikum to the Uketide playlist . There are also several Christmas medleys on the Austin ukulele society website.
At the next Wednesday evening meeting (Oct 8th) we should go over last minute details for the Beloff workshop: placement of chairs, refreshments and/or water bottles? etc.
